　　从某种角度而言，《上天入海擒金匪》对007系列电影进行了种种模仿：执行任务时铁面无情的秘密特工，在各种极端条件下消灭实力强劲的犯罪团伙。在这部影片的某些桥段中，你可以看见《007之俄罗斯之恋》、《007之霹雳弹》等的影子。菲利普?卡弗特甚至也拥有自己的M，即被称为“亚瑟叔叔”的亚瑟?阿特福德?琼斯爵士。与詹姆斯?邦德有所不同的是，菲利普?卡弗特从来不会为了活命而耍些小花招，也不像007那般浪漫风流，他的上司无不称他是一个真正的冷血动物。
　　
　　虽说是一部“山寨片”，但《上天入海擒金匪》的主创阵容还是拿得出手的，男主角由安东尼?霍普金斯担当，剧本由苏格兰著名作家阿里斯泰尔?麦克林改编自自己的同名小说。麦克林的惊险小说十分畅销，他的《纳瓦隆大炮》、《大北极》和《血染雪山堡》等小说都陆续被拍成了电影。不过由于糟糕的票房收入，制片人埃里奥特?卡斯特纳原本计划打造菲利普?卡弗特系列电影与007系列竞争的想法被彻底打消了。
