　　托马斯是一个研究希腊历史的教授，在妻子不幸去世后，他只能和12岁的女儿塞丽娜相依为命。托马斯后来去了一个小岛上进行学术研究，塞丽娜深知父亲的孤单，打算为他重新找一位妻子。可惜托马斯并不擅长交际，和女人打起交道来，总是显得很笨拙。直到机缘巧合下，托马斯爱上了一条名叫涅瑞伊得斯的人鱼，然而面对种种阻碍，他们能有情人终成眷属吗？
　　寡居的牛津教授托马斯·布拉德利正面临失业的危机， 当他得到最后一个机会来证明关于古老的爱的理论时，与他的12岁女儿塞雷纳来到了Spetses不可思议的希腊岛。
　　塞雷纳知道她的父亲特别需要再次坠入爱河于是试试在岛上本地妇女那里寻找一个作为他的女朋友， 但是他们少有对笨拙的托马斯印象深刻的。 幸运的是命运站在了塞雷纳的一边，一天在外游泳时，她遇见一只美丽聪明的美人鱼Nereid， 塞雷纳知道能为她的父亲安排一位完美的妻子。
　　然而塞雷纳明白威胁总是无处不在，邪恶的船长Mavros，这个岛上的渔夫正准备计划杀了Nereid以得到她那条镶有贵重宝石的尾巴
