一部不错的史诗题材的影片，全片2个小时多一点，拍得情感真挚，荡气回肠，主要讲述了十九世纪中期美国白人与美洲土著印第安人之间的利益冲突和斗争。尊重、平等、自由在这部影片中反映尤为突出，没想到讲民主自由的美国当年在对待种族问题上是如此不公正和暴力。影片中的几位主演知名度并不高，但是演技都非常棒，尤其是坐牛酋长，演出了一个作为印第安人的自尊自信及其本身的个性，还有刚出场时的小演员暨查尔斯小时候的扮演者，他的戏份不多但个性鲜明，其他像查尔斯、将军、参议员演的也不错，个人认为该片的总体演技水平还是比较高的。此部影片还值得一提的就是画面和配乐，柔和美丽的西部风景画面及贯穿全片的优美音乐做的非常不错。
