　　天真无邪的斯昆特（埃洛伊丝·劳伦斯 Eloise Laurence 饰）是一个11岁的少女，她和父亲、哥哥以及一个外国留学生一起生活。一次偶然中，斯昆特发现邻居鲍勃（罗里·金尼尔 Rory Kinnear 饰）正在殴打一个名叫里克（罗伯特·埃姆斯 Robert Emms 饰）的年轻人，前者声称后者强奸了他的女儿。然而，在斯昆特的眼里，里克并非一个穷凶极恶之人，他尽管在为人处世上略显怪异，但这并没有掩盖他内心的善良。 

　　鲍勃的暴行并没有因为一次殴打而有所收敛，他似乎在筹划着更可怕的事情。以这场暴力事件为分界线，斯昆特眼中的世界好像突然掀开了面具露出了真实面孔，成人世界里的冷漠和自私一下子全部展现在了她的眼前。
